Double Klondike – how to play
Double Klondike is a bigger Klondike. The rules are the same, but you play with two decks: 104 cards. A game takes longer and needs more planning.
How to play, step by step
Step 1
The cards on the table
At the top left is the stock, and next to it the waste. At the top right are 8 places for the foundations: two for each suit. Below are 9 columns with 1 to 9 cards; only the last card of each column is face up.

- 1 Stock
- 2 Waste
- 3 8 foundations
- 4 9 columns
Step 2
Build down in alternating colors
Just like in Klondike, put a card on a card one rank higher and of the other color. Every card is in the game twice, so a card often has two places to go. Here the red 9 can go on either black 10.

Step 3
Move a run of cards
You can move a whole group of face-up cards at once. The card you grab must fit where you drop it. The cards on it come along.

Step 4
Fill an empty column with a King
Only a King can go into an empty column, alone or with the cards on it.

Step 5
Turn cards from the stock
Click the stock to turn one card (or three cards in the turn three version) onto the waste. Only the top card of the waste can be played. When the stock is empty, click its place: the cards go back and the first one turns over again. You can do this as often as you like.

Play the top card
- 1 Click the stock
- 2 Play the top card
Step 6
Two foundations for each suit
Start each foundation with an Ace and build up to the King in one suit. There are two Aces of each suit, so each suit gets two piles. A card can go on either pile of its suit, when it is the next card there.

2 on the Ace
- 1 First hearts pile
- 2 Second hearts pile
- 3 2 on the Ace
Step 7
Win the game
You win when all 104 cards are on the 8 foundations. When the stock and the waste are empty and every card is face up, the game can put the rest of the cards up for you.
Turn one or turn three?
- Turn one: each click on the stock turns one card. Start with this version.
- Turn three: each click turns three cards, and only the top one can be played. It is much harder.
Scoring
| Move | Points |
|---|---|
| Card from the waste to a foundation | +10 |
| Card from a column to a foundation | +10 |
| Card from the waste to a column | +5 |
| Move between columns that uncovers a face-down card | +5 |
| Card from a foundation back to a column | −15 |
| Turning cards from the stock, going through it again | 0 |
With timed scoring (the default) you lose 2 points for every 10 seconds of play, and a quick win earns a time bonus. You can switch to standard scoring in the Options.
Tips
- Every card is there twice. When one is stuck, look for its twin.
- Turn over the long columns on the right first. They hide the most cards.
- Start with turn one. Turn three is much harder.
- Stuck? Use Undo, or play the same deal again with Retry game.
